Relic Resort

A post-apocalyptic fiction

In collaboration with Robin Delerce

In:dependence residency, Furka pass

2024

At the Furka Pass, different actors and agendas meet and shape the environment. Tourist, energy, scientific, military and artistic infrastructures form a landscape full of galvanized steel characters. This dry and rocky territory of pylons and dormant metal structures, stripped of their original purpose, already resemble the ruins of a bygone era. Freed from their meaning, they become incomprehensible and fascinating sculptures of a forgotten time.
In a few decades, the climate refugees of the Alps will draw them, invent stories about what they were, and try again and again to build replicas, as disintegrated relics of a lost era. The community will melt down metallic remains to imitate the aesthetics born of industrial production processes. They will tirelessly cast clumsy, solid idols of shiny metal, searching for the lost tools of bending, welding, threading or screwing.
This lamp, a materialization of post-apocalyptic fiction, was created during the In:dependence residency program, organized by the Chair of Architecture and Attitude, ETH Zurich. It was part of the DES!NTEGRATE exhibition at Fake Authentic Gallery, Salone del Mobile 2025, held at DropCity.
