Lo sal dins le cors
Festival des architectures vives
In collaboration with Lina Jaïdi
La cour Lunas, Montpellier
2019
Sometimes a single piece of wood, left for a while in the shallow waters of salt marshes, is found after a few months covered with salt crystals. This metamorphosis of one floating element deteriorating offers us the opportunity to rediscover peculiar qualities in what is disregarded.
The inner courtyards of the villas of Montpellier fall victim to the erosion of everyday life. Over time, through dust and decay, what was once intended as a spectacular and communal space becomes a transitory place, am ornamental void at the heart of the building. In June 2019, the courtyard hosted its duplicate in the form of a sculptural double. This second courtyard was slowly shaped by the process of crystallization in the salty waters of the Camargue. Rooted in the territorial and industrial resources of the region, the crystallization process restored dynamic qualities to the ordinary, offering new potential for communal life within the context of the Festival. Over the course of the week, the accelerated process of decay revealed the rusty metal structure, leaving the courtyard of Montpellier with an imperfect model, a mirror of its own façade.
